After School Program
The SCERTS®  way

Fed up with the routine of scheduling individual, time-limited therapies for your child after school? We have got you covered!

Children with special needs who attend school often require consistent therapeutic support to navigate their academic responsibilities successfully. However, the lack of adequate interpersonal and learning supports can sometimes lead to challenging behaviors. To address this, we have developed an after-school program that utilizes the SCERTS framework to provide developmental socioemotional support for school-going children.

The SCERTS® Model focuses on enhancing communication and socioemotional abilities in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It prioritizes three primary developmental dimensions: Social Communication (SC), Emotional Regulation (ER), and Transactional Support (TS). Our program recognizes that the most impactful learning experiences occur within everyday activities within the family and school environments.

Using the SCERTS® Model, our program targets social communication and emotional regulation goals by implementing transactional supports throughout a child's daily activities and involving various social partners. By integrating these supports, we create meaningful opportunities for a child and their family to make progress in their development during everyday activities.

Transactional supports encompass different aspects:

  1. Interpersonal supports: These involve adjustments made by communicative partners to help children with ASD process language, engage in social interactions, experience emotional satisfaction during social activities, and maintain well-regulated states. Peer support is also important, as it exposes children to positive social models and facilitates the development of friendships and relationships.

  2. Learning and educational supports: This includes modifying typical settings and activities to foster social communication and emotional regulation. Visual supports for social communication and emotional regulation, as well as curriculum modifications, are implemented to ensure success in learning.

  3. Family support: We provide educational support by sharing helpful information, resources, and direct instruction on facilitating a child's social communication, emotional regulation, and daily living skills. We also offer emotional support to family members, helping them cope with the challenges of raising a child with ASD.

  4. Support among professionals and service providers: We create opportunities for professionals to enhance their educational and therapeutic skills, provide emotional support, and prevent burnout.

We invite you to join our After-School Program, held on weekdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It offers a structured and supportive environment for children with special needs to continue their developmental journey beyond the school day.
